Pneumocystis jiroveci : chest X ray with unilateral granular opacities
Description
Chest radiograph of an HIV-infected patient, CD4 count of < 200 cells/ µ L, demonstrating unilateral (left-lung) granular opacities. Although Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia characteristically presents with bilateral, usually symmetric, opacities, the opacities can be unilateral or asymmetric. The diagnosis of Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia should still be suspected if there are reticular or granular opacities, even if they are unilateral or asymmetric.
